Any event that interrupts our natural coping mechanisms has the possibility to register as trauma in the nervous system. This can then alter our perceptions of reality, shape our behavioural patterning and effect our general mental, emotional & physical health. This may even continue to develop as defence mechanisms against further pain/hurt & upset or protection from the overwhelming emotions and sensations like rage and anxiety.
These symptoms can often cause serious problems in every aspect of an individual’s relationships, employment and day-to-day functioning.
